For this kind of simulation, the camera is looking from the virtual cockpit of the car to the windshield. The Head-Up-Unit is located in the dashboard and consitsts of a small display (which I modelled with the brightness material and a bitmap texture) and a concave mirror that reflects the display on the windshield. the driver sees a reflection of the display on the windshiel and recognizes it as lying about 1.5 meters in front of the car. During the simulation, I'm rendering 2 animations in a 65 mm "Eye-to-eye-distance" for 3D animation with each about 400 frames lying equidistant on a "headcurve" which simulates the head-motion of a driver.

Now my problem is the following:

When the virtual head moves from left to right, the "virtual picture" in front of the car moves very much. Further, there is a big difference between left and right eye.

In the past, such simulations were done with the tool "Zemax", the results are lying very close to reality, verificated with real test. In teh Brazil renderings, the difference between left and right eye as well als the dynamic in the virtual picture is significatly higher, which means the results are not reliable for me.

I already tryid to use a finer polygon-mesh as well as to rebuild all surfaces of mirrors and the windshield, but got no differences.

Do you have any idea what could cause this and how I could get the problem solved?

Thank you very much for your answer!

Daniel

Black intersections!

When I render my model with intersections, each intersections is black.

Brazil

When applying materials and things to models I've made in Rhino everything works fine, but when I import a SolidWorks model into Rhino the Brazil materials don't seem to apply to the bodies. It'll all just stay as the defaut grey.

Is there a known issue with SolidWorks models being rendered in Brazil through Rhino, or should this be working properly?

Some extra things to note:

I'm using Windows XP-64bit, Rhino 4.0 (SR6) and SolidWorks 2008.

I've tried importing the model from SolidWorks as: .sldasm, .sldprt and IGES.

I've tried having materials applied to the parts in SolidWorks before importing them into Rhino.

Any help on this would be great. Thank you.

Setting the Viewangle and the resolution

Hi,

I need to set my camera viewangle to 7.3° horizontal and 5.5° vertical. I don't think that's the way it should behave. I would think that the correct way to render would be to have linear tone mapping in the HDRI environment and then use tone mapping in the final image after everything has been calculated. Since i only see logarithmic and Reinhard, how could those settings be altered to get linear tone mapping? As i mentioned in another post, it would be nice if the HDRI tone mapping was available for the final rendering. I think it would be relatively easy to add since the code is already there (or not, i really have no idea).

wish : post effect vignetting and camera simulation

Hi Andy. a wish to have a post-process effect for vignetting (radial darkening around the image)... thanks..

Also - would be nice to have simulated camera model and film stock for tone mapping.
