Brian James replied to Alan Crighton's discussion Procedural Leather?
"Hi Howard, The rmtl file format can be dragged and dropped into an open Rhino viewport or imported into the Material panel. In both cases, you'll find the material in the Materials panel after that.  "

Brian James replied to Liam Woolley's discussion DOF...
"Only v5 as noted on the Neon page... http://v5.rhino3d.com/group/neon if you have v4 you can use v5 as well.  "

Brian James replied to Liam Woolley's discussion DOF...
"Yes, measure from the back of the camera to the object that you want to be in focus. I'd use Neon too in order to see the effect in real time.  "

Brian James replied to jim.carruthers's discussion multiple textures and channels
"Hi Jim, I sent you an email just now with the way I would do this blend combo using one advanced blend inside another and two mapping channels. One being channel 1 as surface and the other channel 2 and planar for the tire marks. The asphalt and…"

Brian James replied to jim.carruthers's discussion Analytic bump on ground plane
"Correction, it works in Neon with a Basic material as the parent material, BAM doesn't work with this embedded chain which you may be using. "

Brian James replied to jim.carruthers's discussion Analytic bump on ground plane
"Hi Jim, I see it here and will file it now... thanks. In the meantime, it works in Neon just not when clicking render. "

Brian James replied to Thomas Loeff's discussion Default Libraries and their paths
"The default in v5 is "C:\Users\(YOUR USER NAME)\AppData\Roaming\McNeel\Rhinoceros\5.0\Localization\en-US\Render Content" . The material and environment editors should also remember where you last loaded a file from though. You can also…"

Brian James replied to agesandros's discussion Exterior sunny scene\night scene
"Hi Agesandros, This is one of the toughest types of lighting to get right. I would use a point light with disc area shadows and a brightness material blended with a basic transparent material for the shade. Use GI and adjust the power of the point…"

Brian James replied to Alan Crighton's discussion Procedural Leather?
"Hi Alan, There are two approaches now that are worth exploring. The Noise texture in the bump channel of a BAM and the Skin type of the BAM shader. The latter can be slow due to sub surface scattering but you can tweek the depth to be less in order…"

Brian James replied to agesandros's discussion How create a grass- field
"Hi Frank, The last examples on that link use particles for hair or fur simulation as the means to model the blades of grass. These features are standard in 3DS Max I believe. Rhino doesn't have particles, hair or fur so you are limited to using…"

Brian James replied to Jennifer Shapiro's discussion Displacement yet?
"This is available in the v5 beta already but I don't think it will be a native part of Brazil. The command is ApplyDisplacement and then the controls for the displacement are in object properties.  "

Brian James replied to Jennifer Shapiro's discussion skylight shadow samples
"Hi Jennifer, Both the QMC sample rate for indirect illumination in the Luma Server and the Anti-Aliasing settings will contribute to skylight shadow quality. The render cache can additionally change things on top of these. It's all very…"

Brian James replied to agesandros's discussion Exterior sunny scene\night scene
"The Brightness material will use the GI settings in the Luma Server. I would adjust the energy tweeks multiplier and possibly the gamma to say 2.2. The latter can washout the image so be careful with that one. "
